Just checking that youtube clips can be easily inserted in a blog

Sunday 1 November 2009

Sunday Nov 1st. Well, the October 31st deadline has been and gone and tomorrow, Monday, I will be able to feed back face to face with teams and individuals.

Some have clearly made good progress and are edging towards the business of film making. There are others, too many I am afraid, who seem to have done nothing in the last weeks. I only hope there will be plenty of paper offerings tomorrow to make me feel better.

No one starts any sort of practical film work until preparation, research, evidence of organisation etc is up to date. Filming to be complete by mid / end December - about 7 weeks. Time will pass very quickly.

See you tomorrow!

Monday 19 October 2009

October 19th and halfterm looms. Remember that we will be filming when we get back and so you must be upto date with necessary planning and preparation by then. See Sheldon's Shared area/English/KS5/Media/ A2Production for necessary documents including: Half term summary; Production propsal form; Powerpoint with outline details of the whole unit; G324 sample unit for example ( see Teachers comments for G324.)

Pay early attention to logging influential short films watched and analyse them for their strengths and weaknesses, their likely relevance to your own ideas. Refer to forms and conventions, representation, mise-en-scene etc. Narrative theory can be considered here as well.

Make sure audience research is considered at this stage: who are these films aimed at; how is that evident in themes, plot, language, style, points of reference etc. How is your film shaping up in terms of its audience and how will that decision influence your script, filming style and editing? Refer back to "real" media texts.

I will inspect your blogs for clear signs of progress and preparation Saturday October 31st

Monday 5 October 2009

Reminder to all A2 students: deadline Thursday Oct 8th for current tasks. You have to decide how to break up your modern version fairy tale into 5 x one minute sections. ( Do not assume you divide it equally in terms of time ; you might want to use the last three minutes  of film to record the climax of the story in real-time.)  Do this in a grid  - a table in Word for example.

Then take one of those minutes and story board it. Art skills will not be judged but details of planning and thought are:  consider camera framing, pov, mise-en -scene, dialogue, ideas of representaion.  Storyboard on paper - we will scan in results later (unless you want to create an electronic storyboard and work in  a graphics programme!)

See you Thursday. next stage is first proposals for the real thing -ready for Monday Oct 12th.
